Oh no! Someone disagrees with my predictions for MVP! Boo fucking hoo. Just because my opinion differs from yours I must know absolutely nothing about stats! Didn’t realize when you hit .336, 86 RBI, etc that you’re a shitty player. He’s hitting the lights out for his first place team and without him I do not think they would be where they are. He’s carried the team in the absence of Hamilton for a number of games. I’m not saying that Bautista isn’t influential to his team’s success but historically the MVP is awarded to a player on a team that makes the post season. This is probably one of the closest MVP races of recent years and the margin between each player is very slim, you’d have more of an arguement point if I had him say 10th in the list.
And the fact that you say he is the “best player in baseball” is merely an opinion as is my whole list.
MVP race is heating up for sure, in my opinion the top candidates in order are:
- Jacoby Ellsbury
- Curtis Granderson
- Justin Verlander
- Adrian Gonzalez
- Michael Young
- Jose Bautista
- Mark Teixeira
- Dustin Pedroia
- Miguel Cabrerra
- Paul Konerko
Justin Verlander has some incredible stats… even MVP like numbers, so far he sits at:
He has 7 more starts projected…. how incredible would it be if he won all 7 games? He would of won 26 games in the regular season. That has not been done since 1990 when Bob Welch of the A’s won 27 games. It’s a long shot but…. what if?
The New York Yankees on August 25th, 2011 set a MLB record with 3 grand slams in a game. Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin and Robinson Cano hit the blasts. Wow.
Angels hurler Ervin Santana threw a no hitter for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday July 27th, 2011. There was a strange twist however. A runner scored in the first inning due to a an error and a wild pitch. It was the 11th no hitter thrown in MLB history that the winning pitcher allowed a run. He was untouchable after that though. Pretty special day for him.
Alfredo Aceves set a major league record on Tuesday night. When he won the game for the Red Sox he became the most winning-est pitcher in MLB history with at least 20 career decisions. He has a lifetime record of 20-2. Not shabby.
The Tampa Bay Rays set a Major League record tonight when 29 year old James Shields started the game. It was the 705th consecutive game that a pitcher who was less than 30 years of age started a game.
Derek Jeter collected his 3000th hit of his career on Saturday July 9th, 2011. The hit was a homerun off of David price. He became the 2nd player to have number 3000 be a homerun. He is the first Yankees player to achieve 3000 hits. He also became the 2nd player to get 5 hits in a game in which he collected the 3000th hit. He also drove in what would be the game winning run in the 8th inning. Unbelievable day for him. One of the few greats left to play the game whose name is synonymous with greatness.
